Tom Alsop’s career has blossomed since he made the short move along the south coast from Southampton to Hove.
Since joining Sussex Tom has scored heavily across all formats, passing 700 first-class runs in each season he was recruited, initially on loan, in 2022.
Tom, a left-handed batter and capable wicketkeeper, made 930 runs – including four centuries –  in his first full season with Sussex followed 820 in 2023 and 799 in 2024.
Tom, born in Buckinghamshire but raised in Wiltshire,  joined Hampshire’s academy and played for England Under-19s in five Youth ODIs in South Africa early in 2013.
He was given his first taste of senior county cricket with Wiltshire – his brothers Owen and Stan have also represented the county – in two Minor Counties Trophy matches in May 2013 and in the same month he was called up as a substitute wicketkeeper by Hampshire when Adam Wheater was injured in a List A match against Lancashire at the Rose Bowl.
Tom kept well and held a catch to account for Steven Croft although it went down as c Sub b Mascarenhas on the scorecard. Tom’s name first appeared in the team list when he made his first team debut against Gloucestershire at Bristol in a List A match in 2014 with his first-class debut, in a County Championship match against Kent at Southampton, following two months later.
There were few opportunities for Tom to impress in 2015 but he made his mark in 2016 with 737 first-class runs and 327 more in List A cricket including his maiden century in each format.
He was selected by England Lions for their tours to Sri Lanka and the United Arab Emirates which followed in the winter of 2016/17 where future England Test players Dom Sibley, Matthew Fisher, Keaton Jennings, Jack Leach, Liam Livingstone, Craig Overton, Toby Roland-Jones and Tom and Sam Curran were among his team-mates.
Since his successful move to Sussex, Tom has played franchise cricket for Trent Rockets in The Hundred followed by stints with Brisbane Heat in the 2024/25 Big Bash League and Gulf Giants in the International League T20.
